Berea College Feed & Grain Mill


The Berea College Feed and Grain Mill team members are Lisa Baxter, Rachel Hipsher, and Matt Quarles, under the direction of Dr. Gary Neil Douglas, Assistant Professor of Agriculture.

The Mill Team at Berea College supports the Cattle, Swine, and Goat enterprises by creating and grinding custom rations for the animals. By grinding feed on site, we have more control over the rations in terms of ingredients used, quality, and freshness. The Mill Team is responsible for general maintenance of the mill system (including all auger systems and grain bins) and feed records for the mill and farm.

The primary reasons we grind feed on the Berea College Farm are to educate students in animal nutrition and to teach them the techniques of grinding a ration. It is the perfect opportunity for students to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to their labor position.
